I will be 27 weeks when i have my next dr. appointment and i still haven’t had the glucose screen for gestational diabetes..i thought all doctors did it between week 24-28, but my doctor didn’t say anything about it at my last appointment. Do they tell you in advance or do they just do it at your appointment? Are you not suppose to eat or drink anything so many hours before doing it?
My blood sugar is in very good control, however, there are the occasions when I go into low blood sugar. When I do, I usually drink oj, or eat and eat until it rises and I don’t feel the symptoms anymore, usually taking me into high blood sugar. What can you do in the mean time while you are still having symptoms to prevent yourself from skyrocketing blood sugar? I hate that feeling yet I cannot wait while I’m shaking and in cold sweats for it to rise. Any suggestions?
For the past 2 months, I’ve been having frequency issues. There is no burning or constant urge to go, I’m just going more often, say every 30 minutes to 2 hrs. I have gone back to my local doctor twice and both times she diagnosed it as a UTI. Neither drug she prescribed (macrobid or amoxicillin) has given me any relief.
Finally I decided to get a full exam at Planned Parenthood (40 minutes away from where I live!!) as a second opinion. They said I DID NOT have any infections but that my urine had Protein, white blood cells, AND ALOT of ketones in it. They ended up gaving me a referral for a diabetes test.
When I went back to my local doctor two days later to schedule the lab appointment for the diabetes test, they insisted on giving me another urine test which came out clean. They instead gave me a months supply of Detrol AL for bladder spasms. It doesn’t seem to me that something as serious as ketones would just dissappear over 2 days time. Not sure what to do at this point.
Any comments or ideas of what could be causing my urination issues are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Yesterday I had my glucose screening and they called me back today with my results. I guess my levels were 144 and they are supposed to be 134.
The thing is, they didn’t tell me not to eat anything. I ate a bowl of cereal at about 7am and they tested me about 11:45am. Since they didn’t say not to eat anything I figured it would be okay but I didn’t even think about it but I probably should have eaten eggs or something high in protein and not carbs which will turn into sugar. I didn’t have a problem with my first child I passed my glucose screening with him. I am DREADING going in tomorrow for this 3 hour test! What all do they do? I HATE needles and don’t want to keep getting pricked in the arm every hour! Can they put an IV in and just draw the blood from that each time?? Do you think that the cereal is what did me in??
I know that I have to fast this time around! I am going to watch what I eat all day today!! NO SUGAR!! Not too may carbs either!!
Is 144 really high??
If you passed your test good….I am happy that you did. But you telling me you passed it and not knowing what to say doesn’t help me any! Please don’t leave those types of answers!

I just learned that I’m diabetic, and been testing myself 2-3 times a day for several days now. Here’s the result, and I wanna see what you guys think.
At morning, it’s usually 80 to 95
Eat breakfast, goes to 130 or so, and than take my metformin (1000mg)
Work, 5 hours later, lunch. Numbers varies from 140 to 170 cause I eat a lot.
Than 5 hours later, dinner. Numbers varies, depending if I eat higher carb items like rices but the last few nights, around 122 to 150. I spike once to 200 with rices.(than 1k mg of medicine)
Maybe a snack before bed, though I don’t test.
I test these all of them one day and tested from every 10 minutes after i started meal to see what my number peaks are at. I’ve read that it should be 180 or less after a meal, and test 1 or 2 hours after eating. Well, my highest number happen to be at 30 minutes and 50 minutes. SHould I trust those numbers? At 2 hours, It goes to fasting numbers.
