he is a 56 year old diabetic with diabeties . his blood sugars usually run a little on the high side

What exactly are they testing if it’s not blood sugar? If the level is very high, does that mean something different than having high blood sugar?
The actual number is 105, incidentally.
I wish I could be more clear, but this is third-hand information that I got already garbled. I thought after doing some web surfing that maybe it was a weird way of describing a glycohemoglobin test, but I’m not sure.
