How to Reverse Diabetes
Diabetes affects many people. According to the American Diabetes Association, almost two million new cases of diabetes was reported in people 20 years or older in 2010. An ominous study reveals that this number will go up by at least double in the next ten years.
Diabetes also causes many problems. In the same study done by the American Diabetes Association, people who have diabetes are at great risk to die from heart attacks and strokes – at nearly a two to four times higher rate than those without the disease. Over 65% of all diabetics also reported high blood pressure. Diabetes is a leading cause in both new cases of blindness and kidney failure.
Preparing Food for Diabetic Children
Diabetes in children is a common disease. One has to keep in mind that diabetic child’s nutritional needs are same as those of other children of their age who do not have diabetes. Proper meal planning should be done and also the diet should be revised so as to keep the child’s growth in mind. In general one should keep in mind a child of average weight needs about 1000 calories a day at age one, with additional 100 calories a day added each year. There are two major problems one can say as in keeping your child on track in terms of food:
- Is the need to co ordinate food with insulin injection?
- Are the appalling eating habits of children when they are out of their parents’ sight?

Diabetes: Numbers tell the truth
Be smart and take advantage of the fact that you play a huge role in blood glucose (sugar) control. Yes, it does require you to think about your actions moreso than the average person, however, it will be more than worth it. With diabetes, you need a support system: doctors with different specialties, certified diabetes educators, nurses, dietitians, exercise specialists, psychologist and especially family and friends. Share your feelings and do your best!
Consider and moderate carbohydrates (starch, fruit, milk) at each meal/snack and distribute them throughout the day. Moderate carbohydrate consumption should be approximately 30-60 grams per meal. Find out the effect of that amount on YOUR blood sugar levels to determine any changes necessary. Slower digesting foods (low glycemic index/load) are best for a slower rise in blood sugar over a longer period of time. You DO NOT want a rapid rise in blood sugar unless you are treating a low blood sugar! Examples are: higher fiber/dense carbohydrates (brown rice, wholegrain bread/rye/pumpernickel, high fiber cereals, sweet potatoes, etc.), protein (heart healthier choices are fish, shellfish, poultry, lean meat) and fat (heart healthier choices are nuts, nut butters, olive and canola oil, avocados).

Diabetes Symptoms
Diabetes is a disease where your blood glucose (sugar) levels are above normal. It results from the inability of the glucose to get into your cells. As a result your cells are starving for their food (glucose). It would be like a starving person surrounded by tables of wonderful food but their mouth has been sewn closed and they can’t eat.
A side effect of several forms of diabetes medications, such as Metformin and Exenatide (Byetta), has been observed to be a decrease in appetite. This side effect is not an unpleasant one, necessarily, as it seems to make losing weight a little bit easier for the diabetes sufferers who are taking these types of drugs. For one thing, weight loss is often the goal of diabetes sufferers, since diabetes symptoms worsen when there is too much weight on the body, but for another thing, it is good for the overall health to be able to lose weight effectively and easily.
