Diabetes can’t be cured. And, the very first step in coping with this disease is to accept this reality. Once you accept this, you are in a much better position to think and manage it successfully to lead a normal life. In the words of docs, ‘if the patient doesn’t control his/her diabetes, then diabetes will start controlling his/her life’. And, the good news is – Diabetes can be controlled. With a positive change in your diet and lifestyle, you can very effectively control your Diabetes and Obesity.

Let’s understand what exactly Diabetes is:

Diabetes is a disease that raises the sugar level in human body. And, this is dangerous. If hit by Diabetes, the person may feel exhausted, dizzy, hungry, thirsty, and irritable. A frequent need to urinate is another symptom or result of this disease. If persisted for a long term, this disease may damage multiple organs in the body, including eyes, kidneys, and blood vessels. It is to be noted that Diabetes is the leading cause for health problems, such as blindness and kidney failure. Life comes at a standstill. And, the sufferer finds it really hard to cope with the troubles. However, as the wise men say, ‘Where there is a will, there is a way’. Even patients with Diabetes and Obesity can lead a normal life if they bring a significant positive change in their diet and lifestyle.

Let’s Go a Little Closer to Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes often hits the young people. Here, the patient has to take insulin by injection as the body is not able to make insulin naturally at all or can’t make enough of it.

Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes is most common among people who are already suffering from Obesity. It strikes the people in their adulthood and occurs in people with a strong family history of Diabetes. So, if you also come from a family with a history of Diabetes, make sure you go for regular check-ups and take utmost care in your diet and exercises. It is good to consult a qualified diabetologist or hospital. There is ample of information online as well.

Lifestyle Modifications for Diabetes and Obesity

As already mentioned above, Diabetes can’t be cured. However, there are ways to cope with the disease and lead a happier, healthier life.

Stress Management

We all understand that it is really difficult to digest the idea of getting struck by Diabetes. You may have to change your lifestyle in a significant manner. A drastic cut on the things you love the most! Even when you stress, your glucose levels will go up. So, it is really important that you try and keep yourself calm.

Diet

You need to think a lot to come-up with a balanced diet for your specific needs. You doc will help you decide upon the most-beneficial diet. On a standard basis, you can opt for three light meals a day with small mid meal snacks. Also, empty your dining table for vegetables, oats, brown bread, and whole-wheat products. Cut on chocolates, cakes, saturated fats, etc.

Exercise

A regular and moderate exercise can help you lower your blood glucose level. There are many other benefits as well. Again, you need to consult your doc for charting out a well-planed exercise chart for you.

As the docs say, ’50 per cent of the treatment is dependent on medication and the rest 50 per cent on diet, exercise and lifestyle modifications’.

If you are hit hard by Diabetes and Obesity, you need not to worry. Just choose a well-equipped hospital and talk to your doc. Things will be fine. They really will be.

Is the Omnis Health Embrace Blood Glucose Meter any good?

I have heard mixed reviews about this one and it is the one I have ordered because I was told it is less painful and there is no coding for it.

Best answer:

Answer by Noccie
There are many meters on the market that do not require coding any more. The pain level has more to do with the setting on the lancet device, the how thin the lancet is as well as the location that you choose to get the drop of blood.
However, I have no idea if this meter is more or less accurate than any other.

Article by Adrinna Smith

All body cells need them daily energy intake in order to work properly, regulating vital functions (such as heartbeat, digestion and breathing movements), control body temperature and keep the muscles active. This requirement is obtained by monitoring diet balanced in nutrients, which include protein, vitamins, fats and sugar, which is one of the main sources of energy. Also called glucose, and is an element belonging to the group of carbohydrates, which are composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, and were classified as simple and complex. The first is characterized by sweet, digested from coming into contact with saliva and absorbed quickly into the blood, therefore, provide energy immediately. In turn, are divided into monosaccharide (e.g. glucose, fructose, which is major sources of honey, fruit, milk and juices) and disaccharides (e.g. sucrose, maltose and lactose, found in table sugar, milk, beer and jams).

The complex calls are not sweet, take longer to digest and, therefore, their passage into the bloodstream is slow; among them are the oligosaccharides and polysaccharides, the latter are divided into starchy foods (starch and starch, for example, potatoes, sweet potatoes, cereals, pasta, bread and bananas) and fibrous (so called cellulose, lignin and pectin, rice, tortilla, wheat bran and oat apples and green vegetables, etc.).

Step through the bodyWhen you eat some food passes along the digestive tract, where it starts chain of chemical transformations it nutrients and when you reach the small intestine, containing glucose into the blood. This fluid is responsible for transport to the liver (as a reserve), brain and body cells, where it is used as energy.

For this to be achieved requires insulin, a substance that serves as the key that unlocks the cell door, while brain and nerve tissue do not require the presence of this element, receiving stream directly from sugar blood.

However, once the glucose into the cells is degraded with the aid of oxygen, i.e., enters a state of combustion and as a result becomes water (remove or reuse) and carbon dioxide (which breathe through lungs.) In this way energy is released in our tissues, which allows us to think, study, remember, speak, walk, run, work, breathe, have sex and to rest.

When there is deficiency of blood sugar (hypoglycemia) the body, in an effort to get it, transforms the protein-carbohydrate to prevent irreversible damage to our health, because due to the lack of the “fuel” the body can not function properly which even reaches lead to death of neurons (brain cells).

Moreover, there are people who come to have elevated levels of blood glucose (diabetes), which may be because your body does not produce insulin (type 1) or generated is insufficient or poorly assimilated (type 2).

HypoglycemiaCondition characterized by causing decreased levels of blood sugar (less than 60 milligrams per deciliter of blood), which prevents cells from receiving adequate supply of energy, its causes include: Reaction to medications or insulin in people with diabetes. Skipping or delaying a meal. Administration of certain drugs, such as those indicated to treat AIDS-related pneumonia. Psychological disorders which include generalized anxiety or nervousness. Excessive consumption of alcohol. Pancreatic tumor. Exercising vigorously for long periods.

In terms of symptoms causing hypoglycemia should be noted that each individual may experience symptoms differently, and then discusses: Dizziness. Sweating. Hunger. Headache. Irritability. Pallor. Sudden changes in mood or behavior, and mourn for no apparent reason. Clumsiness. Difficulty paying attention. Tingling around the mouth.

When these kind of difficulties it is best to seek medical attention in addition to a complete medical history and physical examination, order blood tests to determine the level of glucose. After confirming the diagnosis of hypoglycemia, your doctor will prescribe the appropriate treatment, which may include the administration of glucagon (a hormone that stimulates the production of glucose by the liver) surgery (in case of tumor in the pancreas) and changes in dietary habits (to make 5 or 6 light meals and balanced).

DiabetesAlso known as hyperglycemia, is a disease that occurs when the body does not produce insulin (type 1) or generated is insufficient (type 2), resulting in difficulty in using and controlling the levels of glucose, which accumulates in the blood. When the amount of sugar in the fluid is high begins to escape through the urine, and state the following: Excessive thirst. Increased appetite. Fatigue and weakness. Weight loss. Fruity-smelling breath. Drowsiness. Blurred vision. Sometimes unconsciousness.

Although this disease has no specific cause is said to be connected with certain risk factors, including: Family history of disease. Viral infections that can affect the pancreas. Alterations of the body’s defense system, which leads to self-destruction of its own insulin-producing cells. Obesity. Poor eating habits. Little or no physical exercise.

Diagnosis is based on the above symptoms and blood tests and, once confirmed, the endocrinologist indicates administration of insulin when diabetes is type 1, while for type 2 medications are hiploglucemiantes (those who lower glucose levels) and weight loss, and in both cases, recommends changes in diet, for example, reduce the consumption of simple carbohydrates (those with a sweet taste) and prefer complex (starch or rice), plus of eating fiber, fruits, vegetables, meat (low fat) and sugar substitutes.

It is very important to follow the treatment to the letter and keep glucose levels in check, because the people who are high for long periods may have injuries to eyes, kidneys and nerves, foot infections and heart attack.

Finally, consider that it is possible to keep under control the high and low blood glucose, only requires that the affected do your part and follow your meal plan, measure your blood sugar levels several times a day, practice exercise and take the appropriate dose and schedule your medications. In this way, it will be possible to continue normal life and prevent complications of hypoglycemia and diabetes impairs their health.

Consult your doctor.

She says if the new test come back bad that not to worry we still have time to fix it and im like how geeze im due in about 5 weeks, anyways i asked her how does this effect the baby she said it usually effects the development of the organs but mostly it effects the heart. I have read all over the internet and i cant find anything about it effecting the babies heart, and also i had a ultrasound at 22weeks and all her organs and heart were looking just peachy, so just to give me some peace of mind has anyone had a similar situation that can give me some insight on if i should be really worried or not, i appreciate it thank you.

Article by Jeffrey E. Feldberg

How are you doing today? If you are recently diagnosed with diabetes or simply if you are having a day with more challenges than usual, the genuine interest expressed by caring professionals and well informed family and friends who understand the day to day management required of this disease will give you a boost of support.

Here are some common questions and answers when it comes to essential supplies.

What diabetes supplies do I need for self-monitoring?

So you are determined to manage your health, get to listen to your body and react quickly to the signs that mean treatment is required – and that means self-monitoring and the regular use of diabetic testing supplies.

Your Clinician and health care team will determine the most appropriate diabetes monitoring system for your condition and that determines the diabetes testing supplies that you need. Many of you will test at least once a day and that means maintaining disposable supplies at hand.

The choice of meter is very important, not just for accuracy and quality. Usually your choice of brand and functionality is a personal one, but easy set-up, small blood sample requirement s and quick results are important for most diabetics.

The range of diabetes testing supplies including the meter that people with diabetes need include:

A Blood Glucose Meter or Monitoring system- A blood glucose meter reads the level of glucose in your blood. The modern blood glucose monitor is very accurate and will give you a reading in a matter of seconds. A portable model is best for most people.

Lancets – A drop of your blood is required for the blood test and is gained by piercing the skin (typically on your finger). The Lancet is a small needle that will prick your finger just enough for a small amount of blood to escape. It is important you use a new lancet for each test so this is one product in your important disposable supplies range that need replenishing. Test Strips – The drop of blood obtained from lancing is placed on a chemically active test strip. The test strip is ithen nserted into the blood glucose monitor for the test. The test strips are disposable and must be replensed in accordance with your daily needs. Batteries – Always keep spare batteries in your diabetes supply kit. You may not always be able to access replacement batteries for the meter at the right time! Control Solution – Control solution is something you should have on hand in order to calibrate and ensure that your blood glucose monitor is working correctly. For Type 1 diabetics and some Type 2s, the other important daily supply will be Insulin and an insulin pump. Diabetics who use insulin often are required to test their blood sugar several times a day to regulate the effectiveness and timing of insulin dosages. So supplies on hand and reordering procedures for these diabetes supplies need to be very efficient indeed.

How do I make sure I don’t run out of my diabetes supplies?

To shop with an approved medicare contract supplier is a sensible choice. Many offer concierge type services, with automatic re-ordering systems. Ordering online or via mail order for diabetic supplies is a no fuss, low or no cost option. Free shipping and deliveries to your door within a specified time are on offer as are other benefits (see insurance below) and reduce your stress levels. If you are looking for the most economical way to keep daily diabetes supplies on hand, ordering from your home or workplace from the online store of an approved medicare supplier will become routine.

Are diabetes supplies covered by insurance?

Depending on your insurance company, some or all of your diabetes supplies may be covered.

Insurance customers are well catered to by an approved medicare contract suppliers who offer free consultation and advice on what is covered by your insurer and this can also be done most effectively online.

We hope these first up questions and answers about diabetes supplies made your day. Empowering individuals to manage their health day to day is a mission of caring professionals. They know the lifestyle choices to be made that lead to total health, by providing the right information in a convenient, easy and supportive manner.

Question by **Cupcakes**: How much sugar can a Child with diabetes have per day?
My lil did is gonna be tested, and her docter said to start using splenda more and cutting back on sugar, how many grams of sugar can she have a day, and per meal? She is 10.

Best answer:

Answer by Nana Lamb
Sugar comes in many many forms in the food plans. Any food that is derived from plants is a “sugar” or carbohydrate. All of the carbohydrate grams in our foods turn into “sugar” in the digestive tract so are no different on the system than is that white stuff in the middle of the kitchen table.

Also some of us are extremely sensitive to the “sugar” in milk products!! The higher the fat content of a milk product the less rapidly it will raise our glucose levels. So I have ice cream rather than that nasty whitish stuff called “skim or 2%” milk and if the doctor has a fit then I take a calcium supplement with water. They like that even less.

I try hard to keep my total grams of carbohydrate to under 100 per day. This includes the real sugar I put in my coffee. This keeps the bolus insulin to a minimum at meal time and fasting. Insulin either natural or injected is the fat producer hormone of the body. It turns all excess carbohydrates to fat and packs them on our bods. So the less insulin we have to inject the slimmer our profile is! But at the same time we must use enough insulin to keep our glucose levels down to near normal.

No, I did not answer your question about how many grams of “white” stuff anyone needs or can have per day as it is not a significant part of our food plan. I also do not use either the splenda or stevia or any other substitute sweetener.

I do however keep the spoons of sugar to one in one cup of coffee per day! And weeks may go by when I do not add any “sugar” to my food plan at all.

I like Chef Salads, ground beef or lamb patty with a nice tossed salad, chicken with green and colorful veggies! other than corn that is.

check out the OroWeat Sandwich Thins!! They are fabulous! half as thick as a regular slice of bread but tough enough to have both slices for a sandwich!! Peanut butter??

There are times in life when things simply change. Changes are not always easy to accept, but we don’t always don’t have a choice. Not all changes are changes for the better. There may not have been a reason that we can ascertain nor can we understand why these changes happen to certain people. One of those changes is when you first get diagnosed with Diabetes and have to get a glucose monitor system. It will impact you multiple times a day. It is vital and needs to be used regularly. You need to learn how to use it properly, and at the same time you are striving to be getting used to the physicians care plan to help stave off the symptoms of diabetes.

One silver lining with this disease, Diabetes Mellitus (or type II diabetes), is that you are in control. Just as in driving defensively you are the one in control of the how the things around you actually impact your daily life. In the case of type 2 diabetes you can make improvements. You can stop certain things from happening to you. But, you can only do this with regular monitoring of your blood glucose. The type of foods you eat regularly can impact your health if you will totter over the edge and develop diabetes. Also the exercise you partake in can change whether or not you ever get diabetes in the first place.

If your family members have diabetes type II then you are more prone to get it as well. But, remember that you can change the course of your disease by not developing it all via diet and exercising. You can also help the course of the actual symptoms with diet and exercise if you do develop it. Sugared soft drinks and less activity are leading more and more people closer to the edge of being diagnosed with borderline diabetes. This is true of children as well. You must exercise and diet healthier. Perhaps you can try a regimen with your children and stick to in on a regular basis. Here is what you should be looking for to determine if you need to see a physician to see if you are developing diabetes type II: Being constantly thirsty is key indicator (with many bathroom breaks), and the loss of weight.

Not the good weight loss, that is when you are trying to lose it, but the bad weight loss: when you are not trying to lose but simply lead a similar eating and exercise life style. You can also gain excessive weight without changing your current lifestyle. These sound hard to pinpoint, but a physician will do a comprehensive test on your blood sugars over a span of time and this will definitively tell them if you have developed diabetes. But, do not despair. The key to controlling diabetes type 2 is to change your lifestyle and maintain that change over time. You need to alter your diet. You need to exercise regularly.
Keeping glucose levels under control can help people with diabetes feel better and also lower the risk of blindness, kidney disease, and nerve damage. Very high or very low blood sugar can have serious consequences. Although blood glucose meters are fairly simple to operate, many things can go wrong if the user isn’t careful. Here are some tips that can help people with diabetes get accurate results from their glucose meters. • Be prepared before you do the test. Carefully read all instructions for your meter and test strips. Calibrate the meter or test it to be sure it’s calibrated before you use it. • Be sure that you’re using test strips that are specified to work with your meter. Even if an incorrect test strip fits in your meter, it could give you the wrong results. Don’t use test strips from a cracked or damaged bottle and don’t use test strips that have passed their expiration date. • Once you’re ready to test, wash your hands, because even a little bit of food or sugar can affect the results. Make sure the drop of blood is the right size. Let the blood flow freely; don’t squeeze your finger, since that can affect the results. Always use a whole test strip and insert it into the meter until you feel it stop against the end of the meter guide. • Storage and maintenance are important, too. Be sure to keep your meter clean, and test it regularly with control solution. Have extra batteries charged and ready. Heat and humidity can damage test strips, so replace the …

Men and women who have morbid amounts of excess weight wind up being riddled with an assortment of health issues, the majority of these are lifetime disorders and oftentimes deadly, diabetes, heart complications, CVA are just some of these. It is also pegged as a precipitating and exacerbating factor to a few types of malignant growth. The World Health Organization reports a growing population of plus-size men, women and children, in recent years their numbers have ballooned to two billion. The good news is obesity is highly preventable and there are more ways than one to prevent or remove yourself from falling in these aforementioned statistics.Persistency will always pay off in any weight-loss program which combines both diet and exercise. To be able to shed extra pounds, one of the things you should do is to minimize the amount of fat and sugar in your diet. Totally removing fats and carbs from your diet is also not a wise or healthful decision as these macronutrients are necessary for growth and optimal functioning of your body. Take in legumes, nuts, and whole grains instead as these are healthier sources of these. Moreover, you should also increase your intake of fruits and vegetables which are rich in fiber. Some people also take in diet pills to aid in eliminating excess pounds and inches faster, the African mango diet capsules are a recent addition to these products. People have a misconception that African mangoes are the usual heavily traded mango varieties. Even though these are both drupes, these mangoes do not actually fall under one plant genus. Extensively cultivated varieties come from the Mangifera indicus species, those used for the said weight-loss product come from Irvingia gabonensis, commonly known as wild or bush mango. Having said such, one would probably ask where to buy African mango supplements. Presently, you can’t find a lot of health and wellness stores which sell African mango diet products. To know where to buy African mango slimming products one still has to do a research on the Internet.African mango diet reviews are mixed. Many consumers and experts assert the purported reduction of harmful cholesterol and unwanted weight, are true. Some people believe otherwise, even calling it a hoax, and such contentions are found in several African mango diet reviews. Regardless, the only way to verify these claims is for you to buy and take the product. If you do try such product, watch out for side effects like flatulence and headache. While helpful, slimming drugs can only do so much on its own. You must also put some sweat equity into it. Those endeavoring to lose weight should sweat it out at least thirty minutes a day, an hour if possible. You can vary your activities from structured exercises, household chores, walking, swimming to accumulate the prescribed amount of minutes.

There is a big concern with diabetes testers everyday concerning the operation of their glucose meters. Patients don’t like poking their fingers all the time when they want to test themselves for their blood sugars. Think about the difficulty of testing yourself many times a day. You would have to choose the lancet type and clean the area and then poke yourself.

Then you have to milk the finger to get a small sample of blood to add to the active testing strip to insert into the machine to gain an accurate and fast reading on the glucose monitor you have at home. You will eventually work your way around all ten fingers until they have no feelings left. These fingers will be numb and not have much sensation left in them. There are some newer non-invasive methods of testing blood sugar levels for diabetics. Imagine if you can never get another test strip again. You will not have to deal with the mess.

Your finger pain will be gone and you won’t have to deal with another poke again. If your fingers are sore and fed up with the pokes then please make sure that you ask you doctor about the new methods of non-invasive techniques and methods of glucose testing. It is a great option. Not only because of the finger sticks is it a great option, but, also because of the visual issues. There are some great monitors for testing blood glucose levels which have large screens to read the numbers on to aid if your eyesight is aging as you age. Then even a digital readout on an ultra glucose unit can be a very difficult thing to do. But, it is essential to check your blood sugar often, and then record it for you and your physician.

There is another great option. You can get the talking unit. Yes, the unit actually will talk to you whatever number you got on the unit. You therefore will only have to take your reading by listening. This can make your life very easy. Even if you are hard of hearing you can have the unit save your past numbers and then bring the monitor to your physician and they will record it for you. Some names to remember are the one touch monitor for your glucose. There also is the Precision extra glucose meter. So even if you are a veteran of the diabetes testing crowd you will find that it is worth your time to stay on top of the latest testing units as research is being done every day to make sure that you have the fastest, most comfortable, and most accurate glucose testing unit available to you.

The things that may have worked for you in the past are being rapidly fixed. Just imagine the one touch glucose meter, which does not ask you to jab your finger and then milk a drop of blood out of it every day. You would not have anything sore. It would really make you want to test yourself often.

Anyone who’s been diagnosed with diabetes has to be very careful about their diet. The stereotypical idea about diabetics is that they have to cut out all sugar and starch from their diet. You’re supposedly limited to eating foods that are proteins and perhaps some green vegetables on the side. Be sure to ask your doctor about it, or an informed dietician, but there is much more available in your diet. You do have to carefully watch your blood sugar level and keep it within a safe range. You may be able to eat a relatively normal diet as long as you’re moderate about everything. There are many factors to consider for a diabetic diet, and in this article we’ll be looking at some that can be useful.

When it comes to diabetes and alcohol, you have to limit your consumption and be sensible. Before you actively engage in drinking alcohol, you really need to speak with your doctor about your specific condition. Alcohol not only affects your blood sugar, but it can also be fattening, and you have to watch your weight when you’re diabetic. In this way, alcohol is like anything that can raise your blood sugar; you have to be careful with it. You always have to pay attention to what your putting in your body. Aside from blood sugar issues, you also want to keep your weight down. Type 2 diabetes is definitely a concern that you must take seriously. Those that have Type 2 diabetes may benefit from a diet that is high in fiber. Using this approach, it is possible to achieve positive results for cholesterol levels and blood sugar. Maintaining the proper levels of cereals and fruit in your daily diet is still recommended. These foods are recommended because they provide vitamins, minerals, and healthy nutrients that your body must have. Before using a high fiber diet, always consult your physician or dietitian. You must not ingest excessive amount of carbohydrates in your daily diet.

Eating a proper diet is something women who’ve been diagnosed with gestational diabetes must take very seriously. In this scenario, you not only have to watch the kind of foods you eat, but also make sure that you eat according to a regular schedule. Missing meals can be detrimental for women with this condition. Complications regarding the pregnancy can result from missing meals. If your meals are planned at specific times, you won’t have to worry about forgetting them. Resources and facts uncovered by modern research is helping improve the diabetic diet. Not only from the standpoint of approach, but also very convenient methods that make managing daily diets much easier. It is also a good idea to consult with a registered and certified dietitian that specializes in the diabetic diet. If you do not know of one, your doctor should be able to refer you to a proper dietitian that can help. To do well with the diabetic diet, you must take the information you have learned and incorporate it into daily habitual routines.
