Diabetes meter question?

Question by : Diabetes meter question?
I am doing a project for school where we design a new device for people with diabetes. This would include a finger prick, a test strip, a blood/glucose meter, and maybe a insulin catheter. My friend, who has type 1 diabetes says that the whole process for taking blood, testing it, and adjusting his insulin intake can be a cumbersome project. Does anyone who maybe has diabetes have any ideas that would make this easier?

Blood sugar question…..?

I got a test kit from the pharmacy because I suspect I might have diabetes. Before I ate it was 100, I tested my blood sugar after eating it was 198. 1 hour after it was 168. Is that too high? or is that normal?

I am a 21 year old female, who is active and normal weight. I recently went to the doctor because I recently had symptoms of a UTI (my third in the past year and 5th in the past 3 years). My doctor told me during the exam that I had high blood pressure and sugar in my urine. This is the second time I’ve been told that sugar was found in my urine, but the first for high blood pressure. My doctor recommended getting a fasting blood test done. I also checked my blood sugar again the next day and it was still high for someone my age (145/70). Other symptoms I have are fatigue and extreme thirst(even before the UTI I feel like I am always thirsty). My question is what other than diabetes could be causing these symptoms? I have been told that maybe the infection spread to my kidneys and was never treated, but that seems odd because I haven’t had extreme pain in my sides/back area.
I just realized I said checked my blood sugar, I meant blood pressure the next day.

Question about gestational diabetes?

I went for a glucose test today where I was given a very sweet orange drink and blood was drawn an hour later…My doctor called me and said I must return for the 3 hour test as the results were abnormal. My mother has type 2 diabetes and all of her 4 children were large 8 pound to 9, but she was never given a glucose test in those days, so I guess that’s why it progressed to type 2. Her brother has type 1 diabetes and gets injections- As you can see from my family history, my chances don’t look very good. I’m a health conscious eater and eat vegetables every week, but don’t exercise as much as I should. I’m 5’4 and my pre pregnancy weight was 140 pounds. I’m worried sick the 3 hour test will come back abnormal and I’ll be diagnosed with diabetes. Did you have problems with high blood sugar and what was the turn out. Help, I’m worried

Okay so I am 13 weeks pregnant….my sister got gestational diabetes while pregnant with her children and it never went away so now she has it ..anyways I used to test my blood all the time b/c she had the stuff and what not my blood sugars were always 85-99 if i ate anything even candy and what not…so I decided to test my blood today for the first time while pregnant and my blood sugars were 115 (which I know is normal) But that is high for me I have never been that high after I eat (not right after b/c your suppose to wait an hour) But anyways if that went up like that is that b/c I am pregnant or do you think I could get it too?
I know you guys can tell me for sure just looking for opinion tell my next appt.

Also My sister was over weight when she got pregnant and had a few health problems she was about 5’5 at 215-225 lbs then

Gestational Diabetes question?

For over a month now I’ve been able to control my gestational diabetes with exercise and diet, but lately my morning numbers have been steadily increasing. I have 5 weeks left. What happens if my morning numbers get above the fasting numbers my doctor wants, but my after-meal numbers stay within the range? My doctor has talked about insulin therapy, but if my other numbers are staying normal, then would that be a safe idea?
I’m asking here because there’s more likely to be mothers who have gone through it here.

Diabetes question please?

Lately I have been feeling extremely dizzy, especially while standing up at work. I sometimes black out. I lasts for 15-20 minutes, and it’s usually followed by a headache for the rest of the day. I pee constantly, but I could also blame that on having a child not too long ago. Anyway, I have a brother and a sister both with diabetes. My sister suggested I test my blood sugar. It was about 5 pm, and I hadn’t eaten anything since around 11am. I tested with her meter and it was 177, which threw up a warning sign. She had an extra meter, and told me to take it with and keep testing and recording until I go see the doctor, which is this Friday. I tested before I went to bed which was around 10 and I got 99. I tested this morning before breakfast and got 99. Why was the one last night so much higher? Could it be the different meter? I’m sure there’s nothing wrong with it. The one that said 177 was her meter that she uses all the time, and the one I have is just her back up one. Any suggestions? Serious answers only please. no “go to the doctor” I AM! =]

Silly question I know.. but?

I’m going to prom this weekend.. and well, it’s the first dance I’ve gone to where it wasn’t at school. At school, I could stash my purse in my locker… but I won’t have anywhere to put my purse this time, no car, no locker. And you see, I have diabetes..so it has my testing kit and my needles in it and I can’t not have that stuff somewhere where it will get lost.. any ideas on what to do..?
Thanks everyone for your help!!!!!!!!!

Question about Universal Healthcare?

Why are we paying for diabetes testing/kits for 250+ lb fat f*cks who refuse to excercise?

Are we going to be paying for liver/lung surgeries for drinkers and smokers?

Are we going to pay for hormone drugs for Trannies?

I was told to test my blood sugar one hour after I took my first bite of a meal for my Gestational Diabetes. Today I got busy chasing around my toddler and ended losing track of time and accidentally had to take my blood sugar level at 1 hour 15 minutes.. Does the 15 minutes make much of a difference in my level? Would the level be higher or lower typically than if I had tested at exactly 1 hour?
