Are there Typical Blood Sugar Levels?

There is a type of sugar that journeys through the bloodstream referred to as Glucose that is the major energy source for human and animal cells. Each time you eat carbohydrate foods Glucose penetrates your body. In your body, insulin and glucagon control the glucose levels. This insulin hormone is produced by your pancreas and discharged into your body when glucose levels go up in your bloodstream.

To have a regular glucose level you should be between 70 and 150 mg. Meals will make the levels escalate while the levels will decrease in the morning hours. Hyperglycemia, or high blood sugar, typically is when you continually have levels over 150. Hypoglycemia is what you have if you have frequent levels below 70, this is also called low blood sugar. Low blood sugar can be fatal. Listlessness, impaired mental functioning, irritability and loss of consciousness are symptoms of this affliction. The most common disease related to blood sugar regulation failure is diabetes mellitus which is the final result of lingering hyperglycemia. Nerve, kidney and eye damage can be the results of diabetes.

I’m going to be tested for diabetes and was told I have to drink a fruity drink and have to hang out for 2 hours. Just wondering, has anyone had side effects while waiting? Like fainting or throwing up?

Im sorry but i needed to vent and see if there was any other diabetics that think there are a lot of things wrong with the education about this diseases.
1.) the way doctors try to get kids to understand they have a serious condition that’s treatable. Im a grown adult and i still freak out when something acts up because my entire childhood i was told if i go even just a little high i would loose my legs fingers, eye sight, hearing and everything else!
2.) THAT STUPID GUY on tv for the medicare commercials that says “if you have diabetus” ITS DIABETES there is no U!
3.) The commercials that are for parents who are over feeding and over stuffing their children.AMERICA is the fat country we know this. And you know what im all for curves and i realize some people with type 2 have no control because they inherit some bad weight genes or they are getting older and their body cant keep up.. but most of the type 2 ads are about americas fat kids and their trying to get parents to feed their kids better which is good..but I did not get to enjoy 20 Twinkies a day before being cursed my whole life. I popped out of the womb this way, wheres my commercial asking people to donate and help the cause? And of course this one also leaks into the next one…
4.) which is loved ones. I HATE LOOSING PEOPLE I LOVE however science is now about keeping grandma who is 110 years old and would really like to be taken off all the noisy machines and go see grandpa in far far away land, but instead of letting her go peacefully the whole science world is trying to keep her going till shes just fades into the bed..it would be nice if you could reduce her to like 40 or 50 and then keep her going but no…lets keep her going when shes old and tired and cant walk or breath or remember all the people who might come to visit her trying to get her to sign over her belongs when…again she could go see grandpa (if she wanted to I AM NOT saying we shouldn’t prolong life-if that is what the patient wants) but their not asking their just doing when they could be focusing on curing what is wrong with the younger generation so that it stops and doesn’t effect the next one. you know things like cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, arthritis. MS. and about 1000 others that effect tons of people around the world age 0- grandma.
5.) BEFORE I FORGET THIS ONE, I like jodi Foster BUT OMG everyone remembers that in panic room her daughter was diabetic and it was this whole big thing. A.) if you had a panic room there would be diabetic supplies in there IN case of emergency B.) When the clock hit 12 i do not take a “dose’ I have NEVER taken a “dose” I test before i eat, i test 2 hours after. i used to take a long acting shot and then one when i ate and one if i was high. maybe 10 times a day if needed….now im on a pump -go technology- and i only take insulin when i eat, or when im high. Could someone somewhere make a movie where they could get this right??

im really a nice person, and ive had this disease a very long time and im okay with that- but these are just a few things that drive me insane. I don’t mind explaining diabetes to people ive spent years answering “yes i can eat whatever i want, i just take insulin” every time (and there have been many times) that people ask me if i can eat that. Ive even shown people how to do all that i have to do, its fine. and im sure there are many people with other diseases that go through the same thing and i invite you to explain any grievances you have with the world in your disease so that i don’t do anything to annoy someone with it.

Hello, diabetes runs in my family. My grand father, uncle and my dad have it. I want to know how I can prevent diabetes for myself and my child. I was tested in May/June my doctor said in one test my blood sugar level was 112 and in another it was normal. She told me I don’t have diabetes. Since she told me that I have been working out and sort of eating healthy and lost 15 pounds. But for more than a month I have not worked out. I have not eaten anything since 5am today. I checked my blood sugar with (because I am so dizzy I wanted to make sure) my fathers meter and it says 117. I went to an endocrinologist about a week ago and he told me I have it in my genes. Because of the dark spots on my knuckles and neck area. Anyway do you have any advice for me? I do not want this disease. I see how my fathers life is and I don’t want my life to be like his. I am 21 yrs old. Thanks.

Also, what symptoms are most common at 3 years old? My son’s paternal genetics put him in line to inherit diabetes, but my side has no record of it anywhere.
His dumb father insist on giving him soda pop everyday INSTEAD of milk, water or 100% juice. I have him every other week, and notice a huge difference when he eats even a tiny bit of sugar, like in pancake syrup, or in a small piece of cake. For about 20 to 30 minutes afterwards, he’s bouncing off the walls, and then he’s ready for a nap.
I know little kids tire quickly, and require naps on their schedule, but do you think I should start asking his doctor about testing?
I don’t want to put him through this if there is no need to. I hate to think of how painful this could be, and all you parents know that watching your child go through any sort of pain, is absolutely agonizing, horrible, I wish they could take my blood to test him.

it done and can come to know that wether they will have diabetes to them in next life or not?

I would rather not have viles and viles of blood taken out of me unless there is a high risk for diabetes. It is always a mandatory test?
Goodness, I don’t need any rude answers. This was a concern because the last time I had my blood taken I fainted. It was scary, but of course I’ll always do what’s best for the baby. Some of you are just rude.

are there different symtoms of low and high blood sugar or are do they have the same symptoms. if diffrent, how so?

And what are the 800 numbers you see on the TV about a free meter and testing supplies? They advertise a meter that you do not have to prick your finger. Does it require blood still? How does it work? My son is 13 and has CF related diabetes. He tests a couple of times a day and takes one shot of Lantus, long lasting insulin. This “honeymoon” period probably wont last much longer and he will need to test many more times and start taking another injection with meals. Im wanting to lessen the trauma of having to do this any way I can. Do not want to do the pump right now and really the pump may be a some time in the distant future.
They need to invent a meter that does not use strips, those are soooooo expensive.
